Overview
Your subscription sets how many AI agents you can run and how many conversations those agents handle each month. It also controls which premium features are available. All billing is handled through Stripe — your payment details are never stored directly in RightAsk.
Before You Start
You must be signed in to access your billing settings. If you are on the Free plan and want to upgrade, have a payment method ready before you begin.
How to Open Billing Settings
Your billing settings live on the Account page.
Select your account avatar or navigate to
/accountin your browser.Select the Billing & Plans tab at the top of the Account page.
The Billing & Plans tab opens a summary of your current plan, your usage for the billing period, and action buttons for managing your subscription.
Your Current Plan and Usage
At the top of the Billing & Plans section you will see:
Plan name — either “Free Plan” or your active paid plan name, with a status badge (“Active”, “Past Due”, or “Canceled”).
Renewal date — the next date your subscription renews, shown if you are on a paid plan and your subscription is not set to cancel.
Agents — a progress bar showing how many AI agents you are running against your plan limit.
Conversations — a progress bar showing how many conversations have been used in the current billing period against your plan limit.
Usage resets at the start of each billing period. On the Free plan, usage resets on the first day of each calendar month. On Pro, usage resets on your billing anniversary date.
Upgrading to Pro
Open the Billing & Plans tab (see above).
Select View Plans & Upgrade (shown when you are on the Free plan).
In the plans modal, review the Free and Pro plan details.
Select Monthly or Annual billing using the billing interval toggle. Annual billing is billed as a single payment each year.
Select Start Pro Trial on the Pro plan card to begin a 30-day free trial.
You are redirected to Stripe Checkout to confirm your payment details.
After completing checkout, you are returned to the Billing & Plans tab. Your plan badge updates to reflect your new subscription status.
If you are already on a paid plan, the button reads Manage Billing instead. Selecting it opens the Stripe Customer Portal where you can switch billing intervals or update your plan.
Understanding Overage Billing
Overage billing is a Pro-only, opt-in feature. It allows your agents to keep running after you reach your monthly conversation or agent limit, rather than stopping at the cap.
When overage billing is enabled:
Each conversation over your 250-conversation monthly limit is charged at $0.20.
Each agent running over your 10-agent limit is charged at $5.00 per agent per month.
Overage charges appear as a line item on your next invoice.
To turn overage billing on or off:
Open the Billing & Plans tab.
Locate the Allow usage-based charges beyond included limits toggle in the usage section.
Select the toggle to enable or disable overage billing.
When you turn overage billing off, a confirmation dialog appears. Any usage already incurred in the current period is still billed, even after disabling. After disabling, your agents stop accepting new conversations once you reach 250 per month. You cannot activate more than 10 agents.
When overage billing is on and you are over your limit, a banner reading Using extra usage this period appears at the top of the usage section with a breakdown of the extra conversations or agents being billed.
Managing Your Billing Details
RightAsk uses the Stripe Customer Portal for all payment management. From the portal you can:
Update your credit card or payment method.
Download past invoices.
Switch between monthly and annual billing.
Cancel your subscription.
To open the Stripe Customer Portal:
Open the Billing & Plans tab.
Select Manage Billing (visible when you are on a paid, active plan).
You are redirected to the Stripe Customer Portal in the same browser tab.
After making changes, return to RightAsk. The Billing & Plans tab refreshes automatically to reflect any plan or status changes.
What Happens If Payment Fails
If your payment fails, your subscription status changes to Past Due. A red banner reading Payment Past Due appears in the billing section with a prompt to update your payment method.
You have a 7-day grace period from the payment failure date to resolve the issue before your account is restricted. During the grace period, your agents continue to run normally.
To resolve a past-due payment:
Select Update Payment Method in the Past Due banner, or select Manage Billing in the plan header.
Update your card details in the Stripe Customer Portal.
Stripe retries the payment automatically.
Cancelling Your Subscription
Cancellation is handled through the Stripe Customer Portal.
Open the Billing & Plans tab.
Select Manage Billing.
In the Stripe Customer Portal, follow the prompts to cancel your subscription.
Return to RightAsk. The plan header shows a Canceled badge and a message stating the date your plan remains active until.
Your access to Pro features continues until the end of the current billing period. After that date, your account moves to the Free plan automatically. Your agents, conversations, and knowledge base data are not deleted when you downgrade, but features and limits revert to the Free plan.
If you change your mind before the period ends:
Open the Billing & Plans tab.
Select Reactivate Subscription in the cancellation notice.
What Happens Next
After any subscription change, RightAsk refreshes your billing data automatically. A toast message confirms whether the update was successful. If you upgraded, your new plan limits take effect immediately. If you cancelled, your Pro features remain until the end of the current billing period.
Troubleshooting
Payment failed and I cannot update my card. Open the Stripe Customer Portal by selecting Manage Billing or Update Payment Method. If the portal does not open, check that your browser is not blocking redirects to stripe.com. Try opening it in a different browser. If the problem persists, contact RightAsk support.
I upgraded but Pro features are not available. Return to the Billing & Plans tab. If the plan badge still shows Free, select View All Plans and wait a moment for the subscription to refresh. If the badge does not update within a few minutes, reload the page. If the issue persists, contact support with your account email.
I did not receive an invoice. Invoices are sent to the email address on your Stripe account, which may differ from your RightAsk login email. Open the Stripe Customer Portal via Manage Billing and check the billing history and email address on file.
The billing page shows “Failed to load billing information”. Select Try Again to reload your billing data. If the error persists, reload the full page. If you continue to see the error, contact support.
